Writer's Workshop: The last time I laughed really hard...

Is it bad that the last time I laughed really hard was when Riley tripped over something and fell on her face? I know how horrible that sounds, but c’mon? Laughing when someone falls IS one of the highlights in life isn’t it?

Before you start thinking how horrible I am. She was fine. Really. The rug burn on her face healed in just a few days. Kidding. Sort of.

But she thought it was hilarious too. And so did her sisters. We all sat there and laughed at her with her for atleast 5 minutes. And it felt so good to laugh like that.

I hope someone falls today. Gosh darn karma. It’s going to be me isn’t it?

Writer's Workshop--If you could rearrange 3 things in your life...

If you could rearrange three things about your life what would they be?
  1. I would take some of the fat from my mid-section (gotta love that triplet pregnancy) and rearrange it to some more appropriate places on my body. A butt lift and perky boobs would make for a much happier mama. Maybe inject some of that fat into my crow's feet and worry lines on my forehead while I'm at it.

  2. I'd rearrange some of the zero's in my bank account balance, so they were on the left side of the decimal point instead of the right. Or better yet, just rearrange the bills so they get paid by someone else.

  3. I'd rearrange my cooking and cleaning schedule to the 12th of Never and just have someone else get 'er done. I'm a procrastinator and the planning that is required to make a meal can leave me in a stupor. It's that middle step that requires me to go to the grocery store and buy all the ingredients for the yummy recipe that always slows me down. I don't have time for that step. If they don't sell it at Costco, I'm screwed. And the fact that my kids like to make mommy a "birthday cake" by dumping their applesauce all over the quesadillas that I slaved over for three minutes makes my head spin. And then I have to clean it all up. Sigh.

Writer's Workshop--holiday memory

I'm joining in on Mama Kat's writing assignment again this week. I thought I would tell you about our first Christmas with the girls.

Makena and Riley had been home from the NICU for about 2 weeks, but Alyssa had not been released yet. A typical day for me was staying at home all day with Makena and Riley and then visiting Alyssa at night after Steve came home from work. We had a little nap routine down...the girls would eat every 4 hours and then we would all nap!

For our first Christmas, we were completely paranoid about germs and the possibility of the girls catching a virus or cold that would turn into RSV and land the girls in the hospital again. So, we didn't celebrate the holiday with any extended family. We didn't even get a Christmas tree. Christmas dinner was turkey and all the fixings from Raley's.

So we spent our first Christmas enamored with our babies (born 15 weeks early) who had just endured the fight of their lives and trying to wait patiently for Alyssa to join us at home. The only thing that was holding her back was bottle feeding. Girlfriend was much more interested in sleeping and could care less about drinking her bottle. And she had a wailing cry that could be heard down the halls of the NICU whenever it was time to eat. Not a hungry cry, but a "get that bottle away from me cry."

Alyssa demonstrating her favorite activity--sleep! I think she was storing some cookies for Santa in those cheeks. She came home 2 weeks later.

These were pre-blogging days for me, so these were the only pictures taken on Christmas day.

Writer's Workshop

What did I do before I had the internet?
  1. I bought my favorite music (cassette tapes) at Tower Records instead of itunes.

  2. I paid my bills through snail mail instead of online bill pay.

  3. I schlepped over to Blockbuster to rent movies instead of ordering them through Netflix and having them delivered directly to my lazy butt.

  4. I typed my college papers on a gigantic word processor using books that I had to check out and lug home from the library.

  5. I read lots of books. Now I read lots of blogs and try to squeeze in a chapter or two of a good book each night.

  6. I watched tape recorded episodes of my favorite reality t.v. shows (think Real World Los Angeles) instead of catching them commercial free on my computer after the kids are in bed.

  7. I called someone on the phone for directions to their house instead of mapquesting it.

  8. I looked up the movie times in the newspaper and stood in line to buy the tickets. Now I go to Fandango online and print my tickets at home.

  9. I dropped off my 35mm film at the store to have pictures developed. Now I just upload my pictures to Costco and have them mailed to me.

  10. If I needed a phone number I looked it up in the phone book. Now I just do a google search and most of the time send an email instead of calling.

Weekend flashback

Kat over at Mama's Losin It gave a writing assignment on Wednesday (yeah, I'm a couple of days late) to write about a favorite toy that we had growing up. It took me a couple of days to think about one of my cherished childhood toys, but here ya go!

I used to have a pink record player that I LOVED! But even better, is one of the very first vinyl records that I owned. I listened to this song over and over again on my little pink record player.

"Elvira" by the Oakridge Boys (1981). It doesn't get much better than this. And if you don't remember this song, you have to promise to listen until atleast 1 minute and 8 seconds into this video clip. You can thank me later.
