Check out mama's new toy. I was up waaaaayyyyy past my bedtime last night admiring all the ways that this little gadget can improve my life. I know I am SO 2007 with all of my rookie iphone excitement, but hey, it's new to me. So for all of you iphone experts out there, which apps are must haves?1. I have an off/on relationship with the gym and right now we are so ON right now. Blame it on Zumba...my latest work out addiction.
2. Only 31 days to go until my summer vacation. I've only got a bazillion things to finish before then and not nearly enough time to get them all done. If I make it to June 18th without my head exploding it will be a miracle.
3. I've got a killer sweet-tooth and it takes major willpower for me not to bake something a couple times a week to satisfy my craving. But if I'm not baking, luck will have it that my BFF sends me a text at 9:30 p.m. telling me that hot chocolate chip cookies have just come out of her oven. Her oven happens to be in the house right next door. Willpower loses every time.
4. I don't fool myself into thinking that working out will lead to me losing weight. I exercise so that I can eat BFF's homemade cookies with a little less guilt.
5. My fave song right now is Billionaire by Travie McCoy (*Warning* f-bomb dropped in this video. Couldn't find the clean version online.) The best thing about music is that it makes me feel young and I LOVE belting this song out it the car. Singin' like nobody can hear me.
6. The adventure with Riley's eye-patching is going better than expected. We patch at night when we get home, so unfortunately we don't have enough time before bed to get in 4 hours, but we get somewhere between 2-3 hours and she isn't fighting me about wearing it. HUGE relief.
7. I rarely manage to get myself in bed before 11:30 p.m. and I curse myself for it every morning when the alarm goes off. Can't seem to break that cycle.
8. We recently splurged and hooked up Direct Tv. I've now added atleast 3 new shows to my reality t.v. show rotation. Tori and Dean, Kendra, and the Kardashians are now on the list. Completely mind-numbing, but oh-so satisfying while I'm eating a hot chocolate chip cookie.
9. I love this random picture I took of the girls hanging out with some of our peeps a couple weeks ago. Gotta love the little people flashing peace signs!
10. This is the most random post ever. Sorry! For more Wordful Wednesday visit Angie at Seven Clown Circus
I just finished The Help by Kathryn Stockett and I loved it. The story takes places in Mississippi during the 1960's in the midst of the civil rights movement. The white families employed black maids to run their households, yet didn't feel they were worthy of having the same rights as they did.
In this book, you meet Miss Skeeter who comes home from college and is heartbroken to find their longtime maid is no longer working for their family, yet nobody will tell her the real reason why. She starts to question why the black maids are treated the way they are and decides to anonymously write a book telling the stories of the maids. The stories turn into spilling secrets, talking about their unfair treatment and celebrating the love they have for the white children they raise.
This is one of the best books I have read in awhile. The whole time I read it, I thought to myself that this story would make a great movie. Dreamworks is already in the process of bringing it to the big screen. I can't wait to see my favorite characters come to life in the movie.
Cute story and a quick read. Let's face it...when bedtime is looming and each munchkin gets to pick out a book, short and sweet is where it's at!
I have also discovered a new series by Diana Gabaldon that has me hooked. I finished book #1 and am awaiting the next book in the seven book series.Work schmirk, kids schmids....my priorities are shaky right now.
Today was a big day. The follow-up book to Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games was released.

And Season 5 of Rescue Me was released on DVD. The season I've been missing for the last few months because I don't get the FX channel. Do you think anyone would miss me if I crawled into a hole for a few days reading and watching to my heart's content?
Yep, pretty sure they'd find me. The one who supplies the peanut butter sandwiches, wipes heinies, and provides the entertainment can't go missing for long. But you know where I'll be every night after 8 pm for awhile. Reading and watching!

Car rides with the girls have turned into "20,000" questions, all of which begin with "mommy."
Don't get me wrong, I love the ideas and questions the girls come up with and half the time I'm cracking up over their conversations, but it can get a little tiresome responding to "mommy" 20,000 times in a row.
Kind of ironic that the new hit by "The Ting-Tings" came on the radio yesterday during our car ride. Some people think this song is annoying. I think it's catchy. And totally appropriate when I change my name.
VACATION!!!
I'm so giddy right now that I can hardly stand it.
And after listening to the Go-Go's I want to pretend I'm 13 and stay up late watching this movie.
By the time we all made it back in the limo after the last winery, we had the ipod blasting as loud as possible singing along to "I love rock and roll" and "Shook me all night long" with a little gangsta rap thrown in here and there.
We kept the party going for awhile after the limo dropped us off and it turns out that a new mom to the neighborhood was HAMMERED. And by hammered I mean break dancing in the living room hammered. She also wanted to make sure everyone else kept drinking. When she noticed that BF Jess was sipping on water instead of a beer, she yelled out "Hey purple shirt! You need a drink!"
Purple shirt and I had a great day. Let the good times roll!
6. BBQ with the family (Coronas and margaritas included)

So we are off to a playdate today with Auntie Jessica and The boys next door, Auntie Ly and her kiddos and some old friends from highschool and their kids. It should be lots of Halloween Hangover fun! I was in charge of making sugar cookies that the kids could decorate and I wanted to share this fantastic recipe. Trust me, you will not be able to eat just one cookie.

If you've never heard of Matt Nathanson, check out the video below. This song, "Come on Get Higher" has been blowin' up my ipod since I discovered it last Thursday. Amazing. The rest of his CD is awesome.
